04 / OLD MASTERS IN A BAROQUE PALACE
Palazzo Barberini houses Old Master paintings and Pietro da Cortona’s painted ceiling.
Published date exception: 2026-12-25, closed. Confirm the museum calendar before visiting.
Researched schedule through 2026-12-31. Later dates need an official recheck.
Raphael’s La Fornarina and Caravaggio’s Judith Beheading Holofernes are among Palazzo Barberini’s best-known paintings. Judith depicts a violent scene, which families may want to explain to children beforehand.
Check the display notices if a particular work is the reason for your visit.
The palace also has Pietro da Cortona’s painted ceiling and celebrated staircases. Allow roughly two hours, with extra time for a temporary exhibition.
The €15 adult combined ticket covers Palazzo Barberini and Galleria Corsini for twenty days. Barberini is near Piazza Barberini; Corsini is in Trastevere, so the two visits can be made on separate days.
Corsini also offers an €8 ticket for that gallery alone.
Eligible young EU visitors qualify for a €2 combined ticket, while under-eighteens and certain other categories enter free. Check the required documents and the total for your chosen date, including any fees or exhibition changes.
Guided tours are optional.
Both venues ordinarily open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00–19:00, with ticketing ending at 18:00. Booking is recommended on free Sundays and other institutional free days.
Bags and umbrellas are subject to the cloakroom rules. Check the luggage restrictions before arriving with an oversized bag.
