THE SINGAPORE MUSEUM GUIDES

Singapore museums: objects, ideas and changing identities

Singapore’s museums are most rewarding when you follow the connections between them. Trade explains the movement of ceramics and religious imagery; family possessions reveal lives across communities; modern art asks how a rapidly changing city sees itself. Choose one substantial museum and a nearby second stop, rather than trying to cover the whole island in a day. Start in the Civic District for Peranakan Museum, National Gallery Singapore and Asian Civilisations Museum. The renewed National Museum adds the island’s broader history. Indian Heritage Centre makes a focused companion to Little India, while ArtScience Museum offers a different pace through interactive digital art beside Marina Bay.
